Welcome to Blackwater Bend

A waterfront farmhouse on 70 acres

Blackwater Bend is a four-bedroom farmhouse on a working farm that has been in our family for generations. It sits inside Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, a mile off the main road at the end of a dirt and gravel drive.

There is room for ten. All four bedrooms are upstairs: a king suite with a private riverfront balcony, two queen rooms, and a bunk room that works well for children. Downstairs, the main living room has vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and a wood-burning fireplace. Outside there is a pool, a private dock, five acres of open lawn, and kayaks and bikes for everyone.

The property is quietest in the early morning and the evening, when the sika deer come out near the fields and the light settles over the river.

The dock is yours for fishing, paddling, or a cup of coffee at sunrise.

Outside

The pool, the dock and five acres of lawn

The in-ground pool is open from Memorial Day through October and ranges from three to eight feet deep. Around it are lounge areas and an outdoor dining space with a table for ten. Past the lawn is the river, which is calm water well suited to paddling, fishing and watching for eagles and herons.

  • Large in-ground pool, 3–8 ft (Memorial Day–October)
  • Private dock for fishing and morning coffee
  • Three kayaks with paddles and life jackets
  • Six bikes for the farm roads or the ride into town
  • Wood-burning fire pit and electric grill
  • Outdoor dining for ten under the trees

The great room, the kitchen and the sunroom

The main living room has vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, wide-plank pine floors and a wood-burning fireplace, and it is a comfortable place to gather in the cooler months. The kitchen opens onto the dining table, and the riverfront sunroom holds a pool table, a ping-pong table and a large television.

  • Locally made walnut table seats eight, plus two at the counter
  • Moccamaster, Nespresso and Night Kitchen coffee
  • 70" TV with full YouTubeTV
  • Pool table and ping pong in the riverfront sunroom
  • Steam shower and heated floors in the primary bath
  • Starlink, 300 Mbps throughout
